It was a tradition now. Since that very first year when he moved into the mansion, Bobby Drake had spent Halloween night dressed up, driving everyone else insane.

It had started because Professor Xavier forbade any of them from trick-or-treating outside of the mansion. It was a reasonable caution, after all, letting a group of mutant students go knocking on the doors of strangers was probably not a good idea. So Bobby had decided to trick-or-treat around the mansion itself. That first year the others all thought he was crazy. He'd dressed up as a vampire and gone around to each of the other's rooms one by one. Jean had laughed and given him a peck on the cheek as his treat. Hank offered him a spare tootsie-roll. Scott simply rolled his eyes and told him to grow up. And Warren spread his wings and fanned them so hard that Bobby went flying backwards.

The next year, they'd all had tricks or treats planned for him. Over the years, he been tricked mostly - for some reason the other students always thought that was a better plan that giving him treats, but he never really minded. It was fun. A laugh. And that was what Bobby Drake was all about.

And so it became a tradition.

This year was hard for Bobby. It was the first year that neither Jean nor the Professor had been around. Things weren't like they used to be. There were plenty of kids around to join in the fun, but it still wasn't the same. Jubilee had pretty much taken control of the Halloween events, but Bobby still wanted to trick-or-treat.

And so, with the help of Kurt to make his costume authentic looking, Bobby dressed himself up as a pirate captain and headed off to the first floor rooms.

The first room he came to was the one he was most dreading knocking on. Jean-Paul Beaubier was not the most easy-going person in the mansion. But Bobby was not going to back away. It was tradition. He had to knock on every room.

So he knocked, waiting for a muffled "go away". He heard footsteps from the other side of the door and then it opened.

"Oui?"

"Trick or Treat!"

Jean-Paul looked at Bobby for a while. Bobby looked at Jean-Paul.

Jean-Paul finally spoke. "I am to give you a trick or a treat. That is correct, non?"

Bobby nodded. He couldn't understand why Jean-Paul was taking his time over this. Surely it was a quick enough decision to tell him to go away, or to give him a candy bar, or something.

But still Jean-Paul looked at him.

"Interesting costume, Robert," smiled Jean-Paul, noticing the leather pants and the red silk shirt that Bobby was wearing. For once, his taste in clothes was impressive.

Bobby simply rubbed his hand down his thigh, trying to wipe the uncanny amount of sweat from his hands. The effect on Jean-Paul was electrifying and the Quebeccer attempted to stifle a small gasp.

Withough thinking, he took a step towards Bobby and, before either of them was aware of what was happening, he kissed him quickly on the lips. As he pulled away, he gave Bobby a brief smile and walked back inside the room, shutting the door.

Bobby stood there, stunned. He leaned against the door and brought a finger to his lips. For once, Bobby Drake - the iceman, the class prankster, the joker - was lost for words.

He had no idea if he'd just been tricked or treated.
